THE VINEYARD
HISTORY
All the production of Finca Les Serradetes comes from its own vineyard planted in 2005, of just under half a hectare and located next to the modest facilities. It is located in the Benicarló-Càlig Plain, within the municipality of Benicarló, but just 4 km from the town of Càlig. The terrain is completely flat and the climate, with a clear Mediterranean trend, is influenced by the humid and salty breezes of the Mediterranean Sea, that is so lonely 5 km, and by the strong dry winds from the northwest «mestral», that guarantee a healthy vineyard.
The soil of our vineyard is predominantly calcareous and although the soil is fertile, the existence of important cavities and large rocks below the surface, on the one hand it facilitates drainage, and on the other it allows the plant to seek life with more difficulty. We care about the environment, hence the cultivation of the vineyard is as natural as possible and that is why we do not use herbicides or artificial irrigation.
Viticulture
The vineyard is cultivated with the pairing system, thus increasing the sun exposure of the grape, allowing optimum maturation at the time of harvest. Taking advantage of the small area of the vineyard, we develop precision viticulture, controlling the vines one by one throughout the vegetative period, what makes us achieve an exceptional grape quality.
Yield per vine is an average of 2 kg per life or less. The harvest is done manually, beginning in early August with Chardonay and ending in mid-October with La Morenillo. No herbicides or irrigation are used..
varieties
The varieties planted are white Chardonnay and Moscatel de Alejandría; and black cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah and morenillo.
Morenillo variety
The Morenillo is a native variety that was cultivated, until the beginning of the century 20, in the areas near the Baix Maestrat coast. Forgotten and practically disappeared at the beginning of the century 20, of Les Serradetes estate, and starting from a single hundred-year-old vine donated by a farmer from Càlig, we have contributed to rescuing it from extinction.
It is a variety that adapts perfectly to the climate and the terroir of our area. This variety is characterized by low yield and irregular production. your grapes, which have a peculiar bluish color, provide high-quality organoleptic parameters that then vinify elegant wines, subtle, fresh with an excellent alcohol-acidity balance, a good floral and fruity intensity (mature fruit), spicy and balsamic nuances. We have independent vines and vines grafted with American foot.
